Contrary to popular belief, skincare isn't just for those with specific skin concerns like acne or redness, nor is it something only women should care about. In reality, skincare is for everyone. Taking proper care of your skin helps prevent issues down the road. For men, the goal is simple - keep your skin clean and healthy. You don’t need to aim for a flawless glow 😆.
The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all routine because everyone’s skin is different. So finding the right products for your skin type might take some time. In this article, I’m sharing my daily routine, which works for my combination skin. My T-zone gets oily, while my cheeks tend to stay dry. Hopefully, you'll find the right regimen that works for you soon!
Step 1: Cleanser (Daily)
The first step to any skincare routine is cleansing. It removes dirt and excess oil, leaving your face refreshed and ready for the next steps.

At the moment, I’m using a cleanser from Horace, a brand I stumbled upon during a trip to Europe two years ago. I usually switch up my skincare products every three months, mostly because I like experimenting with new things 😜. That said, I’ve used brands like Baxter of California, Aesop, and Grown Alchemist, and I’ve found Horace to be just as effective but at a more affordable price point. Horace’s Purifying Face Cleanser, made with charcoal extract, has a subtle aloe scent. It cleans thoroughly without making the skin feel tight, which is a big plus for me.
Step 2: Exfoliation (Twice a Week)
Like with my cleanser, I turn to Horace for my exfoliating cream too.
Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and allows your skincare products to penetrate better. Wet your face with warm water, apply the cream in gentle circular motions, and focus on areas where dead skin builds up - like the forehead, nose, and neck. After about two minutes, rinse with cold water.

You don’t need to exfoliate daily; two to three times a week is enough. Over-exfoliation can strip away the natural oils your skin needs, leading to dryness, redness, and irritation.
Step 3: Toner (Daily)
Toner is a crucial step in balancing your skin’s pH levels and getting rid of any lingering dirt. After washing your face, pat it dry (but not completely), then apply toner to a cotton pad and gently wipe across your face and neck.
I’m currently using an oil-control toner from Jack Black. It’s packed with natural ingredients, smells nice, and the blue bottle adds a cool aesthetic touch to my bathroom 😆.
Step 4: Oil-Absorbing Mask (Twice a Week)
If you have oily skin like me, controlling oil production is key. Twice a week, I use C.O. Bigelow’s clay mask. It contains kaolin (white clay), which is great for absorbing dirt, oil, and dead skin that can clog pores.
Apply a thin layer to dry skin, wait for about 15-20 minutes, and rinse off with water.
Step 5: Moisturizer (Daily)
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking oily skin doesn’t need moisture. Keeping your skin hydrated is essential to controlling oil production.

I use two different moisturizers - one for daytime and one for nighttime:
Daytime: I go with Jack Black’s Double-Duty Face Moisturizer, which keeps my skin soft and smooth. Plus, it has SPF 20, making it a great choice for daytime use before heading out.
Nighttime: Before bed, I apply Horace Mattifying Face Moisturiser - yes, I’m a big fan of Horace 😆. It’s unscented, absorbs quickly, and leaves my skin with a smooth, matte finish.
