Skincare isn’t just for acne, redness, or other skin issues - and definitely not something only women do. It’s about taking care of your largest organ and preventing future problems. Forget flawless, glowing skin; the goal here is simple: clean, healthy skin. That’s all most guys need, right? 😏
Looking for the perfect skincare routine? Spoiler alert: there isn’t one. Skin types differ, so your regimen needs to match your skin’s unique needs. Mine? It’s the classic oily-combo - shiny T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) but cheeks as dry as a desert. Sharing my daily routine below. Hope it helps you find what works for you! 👊
Step 1: Cleanser (Daily)
The foundation of any skincare routine, cleansing removes dirt and sebum, leaving your face fresh and light.
Currently, I’m hooked on the Purifying Face Cleanser from Horace. I stumbled upon it during a Euro trip two years ago and haven’t looked back. Honestly, I switch up my skincare lineup every three months because, well, skin evolves - and I love trying new products! 😅
Over the years, I’ve tested brands like Baxter of California, Aesop, and Grown Alchemist. Horace holds its own against these premium names but comes at a friendlier price point. Made with charcoal extract, its subtle aloe scent is refreshing, and the best part? It leaves my skin feeling clean but not tight.
Step 2: Exfoliation (Twice Weekly)
To level up your cleansing game, exfoliation is key. And, yes, my go-to here is also from Horace.
Start by wetting your face with warm water. Apply the exfoliating cream in gentle circular motions, focusing on areas prone to dead skin buildup (forehead, nose, neck). Rinse off with cold water after about two minutes.
Stick to exfoliating no more than twice a week. Overdoing it can lead to irritation, dryness, and redness - no one needs that. The cream’s tiny particles are perfect for deep cleaning but can be too harsh if used excessively.
Step 3: Toner (Daily)
Toners work below the surface, balancing your skin’s pH and wiping out what your cleanser might have missed. After cleansing, towel-dry your face (but not completely) and swipe on some toner with a cotton pad.
My favorite? The oil-control toner from Jack Black. Its organic ingredients, mild scent, and cool blue packaging make it a winner. Plus, it looks sharp sitting on my bathroom shelf. 😏
Step 4: Oil-Absorbing Mask (Twice Weekly)
Oily skin warriors, this one’s for you. A good clay mask is like hitting reset on your skin. My pick is C.O. Bigelow’s Kaolin Clay Mask - a deep-clean champ that draws out dirt, oil, and dead skin from clogged pores.
Spread a thin layer on dry skin, let it work its magic for 15-20 minutes, and rinse thoroughly. Your skin will feel clean and less greasy, guaranteed.
Step 5: Moisturizer (Daily)
Think oily skin doesn’t need hydration? Wrong! Proper moisturizing keeps oil production in check and your skin balanced.
I rotate between two moisturizers:
Daytime: Jack Black’s Double-Duty Face Moisturizer. Lightweight, silky, and SPF 20 for daytime sun protection.
Nighttime: Horace’s Mattifying Face Moisturizer. Fragrance-free, fast-absorbing, and leaves a smooth matte finish.
Both deliver moisture without adding shine - perfect for my oily-combo skin.
Taking care of your skin doesn’t have to be complicated or fussy. Whether you’re battling excess oil or just want a clean, polished look, these steps will have your back (or, more accurately, your face). Start simple and tweak as you go.
