David Beckham and fashion are a force of nature, a duo that never fails to lift the spirits of millions across the globe. I’m no exception; after reading an interview with Becks, paired with a striking Mr. Porter photoshoot, I couldn’t wait to share it with you. 😉
While it’s clear this piece leans toward promoting Belstaff’s latest collection, where Becks serves as their high-profile ambassador, it also offers some intriguing insights into the world’s most stylish former footballer. Here’s a glimpse of what I found worth sharing.
Many guys in the “shorts and jersey” crowd tend to stick to a conservative style formula that rarely changes. Beckham, however, has always stood out from the pack. His innate fashion sense has helped him craft a signature look that millions admire. When asked where he finds his style inspiration, Beckham confessed, “Honestly, I don’t really know where it comes from. My dad wasn’t into fashion, although he dressed well. Even for me, if you look, I don’t always get it right. But that’s okay. Style isn’t about being perfect. I don’t wake up thinking I have to wear this or that - I just go with what feels most comfortable.”
“Having a unique style is important too. There are certain rules in dressing, especially for the British - you’re taught how a gentleman should dress. Maybe you go to Savile Row for a bespoke suit or pick up cues from others. There’s always a ‘code’ in men’s fashion. But, personally, I think rules are there to be broken. I’ve done it for years, with mixed results, but I’ve always been happy wearing what I like. I’ve never let anyone tell me what I have to wear,” he added.
Beckham will also make an appearance in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming film King Arthur, sparking some talk of a potential new acting career.
“I’ve seen the media mention this new career direction, but that’s not the case. I had a small part in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. purely because Guy asked me to. It’s the same with King Arthur. Acting isn’t a new path; it’s just something fun I do now and then. It’s not something I’m trained or particularly skilled at,” Beckham clarified.
Beckham’s true character, however, shines in his devotion to family. Just look at how this 40-something dad cares for Brooklyn, Cruz, Romeo, and Harper. For Beckham, true style is rooted in being a grounded, dedicated father and family man.
That’s the real essence of Beckham’s style.
