O'Douds Water-Based Pomade: Fragrance & Texture That Hit All the Right Notes

Ever since I ventured into the world of pomade, I’ve felt like a whole new realm of grooming has opened up to me. It’s a world of well-groomed gentlemen with sleek, styled hair, and O'Douds is a prime example of an independent brand that's raising the bar. They live by three key principles: All Natural, Well-Sourced, and Made by Hand.

What sets independent brands like O'Douds apart is their flexibility. They can easily tweak their formulas based on customer feedback, something that’s nearly impossible for mass-produced pomades where changes would require a significant investment. O'Douds takes full advantage of this, ensuring their products continuously improve and evolve.

Here’s the main character, looking way too cool :))

Now, let's dive into the star of the show, the O'Douds Water-Based Pomade, which FTW515 kindly sent me for review. I’m not familiar with the previous version, but this new one has been making quite an impact, and I can’t wait to share my thoughts.

Packaging: Vintage Charm Meets Modern Design

O'Douds' packaging exudes a timeless charm with its amber-colored glass jar. The simple, laser-etched lettering on the container gives it a refined, vintage feel, almost like a bottle of medicine from back in the day. Interestingly, I’ve heard the next batch may feature labels instead of the etching, but the current design is just as appealing.

A box made of amber glass with an aluminum lid. Looks like this is becoming a trend among pomade brands, doesn’t it?

The pomade comes in a 4oz (about 100ml) jar, which should last you a good month, even with regular use. The amber glass and metal lid are part of a trend I’ve noticed among pomade brands lately, and O'Douds nails this look perfectly.

Texture: Smooth, Creamy, and Easy to Work With

I was pleasantly surprised by the texture of this water-based pomade. Compared to the thicker, firmer Reuzel Red and Blue, which can feel a bit stiff, O'Douds has a creamy, ivory consistency. It's more like a soft paste, making it easy to scoop out and work between your hands before applying to your hair.

Fragrance: Subtle, Fresh, and Uplifting

The fragrance is where O'Douds truly shines. It’s a lovely blend of cedarwood and citrus, with the citrus notes being the standout. To me, it has a refreshing lemon candy scent - sweet, but not overpowering. The fragrance lingers just enough to make your hair smell good without being too much. Plus, all the ingredients are natural, including beeswax, jojoba oil, castor oil, shea butter extract, and vitamin E.

O'Douds Water Based pomade is made from all-natural ingredients like beeswax, jojoba oil, castor oil, shea butter extract, soybean extract, vitamin E, and more.

Texture and Shine: Soft, Smooth, and Natural

When applied to my thick, coarse hair, O'Douds leaves it feeling soft and smooth. The initial sensation is a bit sticky, but that fades after 3–4 minutes of styling. The result is a nice, textured look with well-defined strands, and the shine is just right - not too glossy, not too matte - making it perfect for a range of styles.

For me, I prefer a more natural look, so after combing my hair into place, I use my fingers to tousle it for that effortless vibe.

Hold Strength: Flexible, Not Too Strong

The hold is on the medium side, perfect for a more natural look. Adding more doesn’t necessarily increase the hold, but it does make your hair heavier and more slicked down, which can be ideal for classic looks like a slick-back or pompadour. It’s definitely not a heavy hold pomade, but it’s perfect for a relaxed, restyleable look.

After 6 hours of wear (including the inevitable helmet "torture"), my hair still looks good, though a few stray hairs have started to fall out of place.

What I really love about this pomade is how easy it is to restyle. After removing my helmet, I can simply run my fingers through my hair to adjust it without feeling any tugging or stickiness. That's a real win in my book!

Washability: A Breeze to Clean

Like most water-based pomades, O'Douds washes out easily with just one shampoo. Plus, my hair feels softer and smoother afterward, which is likely thanks to the natural ingredients like Vitamin E and jojoba oil.

Final Thoughts: A Must-Try for a Natural, Restyleable Look

O'Douds Water-Based Pomade is a great choice for anyone who values restyling and natural-looking texture. In Vietnam, where helmets wreak havoc on styled hair, this product is especially useful for those who need something flexible and easy to adjust throughout the day.
