Repairing My A.P.C. Petit New Standard Jeans

Here’s how my A.P.C. Petit New Standard jeans looked when I first got them back in late 2015.

They weren’t my first foray into raw denim, though. My journey began with a pair of Nudie Tight Long John jeans. Those were fantastic and still hold a special place in my heart, but they had a bit of stretch, which made them easy to wear from day one. Perhaps that’s why I didn’t fully grasp the allure of raw denim until I got my A.P.C. pair.

Initially, these jeans were stiff and unforgiving, producing a distinctive "crackling" sound with each movement. However, after a week or two of wearing them, they began to soften, and I started to appreciate the unique character that raw denim offers. As they faded, they molded to my legs, becoming increasingly comfortable. They quickly became my go-to pair, accompanying me everywhere - work, outings, travel - creating a tapestry of memories through their wear and tear. What others might view as flaws - stains, scuffs, and rips - transformed into cherished stories on my jeans.

But after all this time, I realized my trusty companion needed some care if we were to continue our journey together. Here’s the state of my jeans before I took them in for repairs:

The left pocket had a tear from years of accommodating increasingly larger phones 😂.

The seat was in rough shape!

And the knee tear had its own story. It happened during a trip to Europe in late 2019 while I was helping a friend move in Spain. Moving boxes and a torn knee - what a combination!

I decided to keep the knee tear as a testament to my adventures, focusing instead on fixing the pocket and reinforcing the seat. After extensive research in denim enthusiast groups, I found an artisan skilled in denim repairs who could do the job just right.

The front pocket was expertly repaired with light blue stitches that perfectly matched the jeans' faded hue.

The worn-out seat was also magically restored.

Here’s a peek at the inside. Only one side was damaged, but the shop owner reinforced the entire seat area, knowing it’s the part that takes the most strain when I sit. Everything looks sharp and tidy!
