Beckham's Undercut: The Soft Take on a Classic

Updated: Oct 25

For those wanting to replicate Beckham's latest "soft" undercut style, here’s the lowdown.

Even at 39, Beckham's influence is as strong as ever, especially in the fashion scene. This March, we're about to see a new chapter in Beckham's partnership with H&M as the Modern Essentials collection launches. Moving beyond just underwear, this line brings Beckham's style within reach for everyone, thanks to H&M’s affordable pricing. (I've already added a few must-have pieces to my wishlist after checking out the lookbook.)

But let’s get back to the main topic: Beckham’s “new yet nostalgic” undercut hairstyle. This version takes a softer approach than the sharper undercut he’s worn in the past, with a subtly tousled look at the front that makes it effortlessly stylish.

The middle section of the hair is slightly forward-leaning, making it a perfect fit for guys with elongated face shapes. While Beckham's hair texture is generally softer and easier to style, Asian hair, especially Vietnamese hair, tends to be coarser. This can make it tricky to style without some help. If you’re like me and have hair that resists styling without wax or gel, consider a light perm to soften the texture. This will make it easier to style with products, especially for undercut variations like slick-backs, quiffs, or pompadours.

For the best results with Beckham's "Soft Undercut," I’d recommend taking a photo of this style to your barber. Be sure to ask for the sides to be trimmed with scissors rather than clippers to keep the style softer. Yes, it’s a bit more effort for the barber, but it’s key to achieving this relaxed, textured look.

Once you have the haircut, styling is straightforward. Dry your hair by brushing it back with your hands, then apply a low-shine or matte wax for a natural finish. Using your hands instead of a comb keeps the look effortless and touchable.
