David Beckham and fashion are a powerhouse duo that has the ability to ignite a spark in millions of people across the globe. And I’m no different. After reading an interview and seeing an eye-catching photoshoot of Beckham for Mr. Porter, I knew I had to share some of it with you!
Though this feature was promoting Belstaff’s latest collection - Beckham being a frontman for the iconic biker brand - the interview offers a deeper dive into the mind of one of the world’s most stylish men, which is too good not to share.
Let’s be real: most guys who live in shorts and jerseys stick to that safe space, never venturing far from their comfort zone. But Becks? He’s always been the exception. His sharp instinct for fashion has set him apart, building a personal brand that’s inspired millions around the world. When asked about where his style inspiration comes from, Beckham replied, “Honestly, I’m not really sure where it comes from. My dad wasn’t a huge style guy, though he dressed well enough. And even I don’t always get it right, but that’s fine. For me, style isn’t about overthinking it. I don’t wake up and say, ‘I have to wear this today.’ I just go with what feels comfortable.”
“Having your own style is key. I know there are specific rules when it comes to dressing - especially in England, where you’re taught how a gentleman should dress. If you can, you head to Savile Row and get a bespoke suit, or you watch and learn from how others do it. But at the end of the day, fashion rules are there to be broken. I’ve been doing it for a long time, sometimes with success, sometimes not, but I always enjoy wearing what I want. No one tells me what to wear.”
Beyond fashion, Beckham has also dipped his toes into acting, appearing in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming King Arthur. Naturally, this has led to rumors about a new career for him.
“I’ve heard people say acting is my new career path, but that’s not true. I had a small part in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., but that was because Guy’s a good friend, and it’s the same with King Arthur. Acting is just a bit of fun for me. It’s not something I’ve trained for or am taking seriously,” Beckham clarified.
At his core, Beckham remains a family man. Even with all the fame, his focus is always on his family, especially his kids - Brooklyn, Cruz, Romeo, and Harper. Despite his iconic status, the “Beckham brand” is, at its heart, the image of a down-to-earth guy who enjoys nothing more than being with his children. That’s the real Beckham - style and all.
