Get David Beckham's Soft Undercut Hairstyle

Want to nail Beckham’s iconic "soft" undercut style? Here’s how to achieve the look.

Even at 39, former England captain David Beckham remains a major trendsetter in the fashion world. His partnership with H&M is expanding, moving beyond just underwear. With the Modern Essentials collection dropping in March, fans can now dress like Beckham without breaking the bank. (I’m already eyeing a few pieces from the lookbook!).

But let’s get back to Beckham’s hairstyle - his latest take on the undercut. This time, it’s a bit more laid-back, featuring some textured messiness in the front.

Why It Works

The "soft" undercut is ideal for guys with longer face shapes since the hair at the front leans forward. Beckham’s naturally soft, fine hair makes it easier to style than, say, coarser Asian hair types. If your hair is stiff and dry (like mine), you might need a perm to soften it before styling with wax or gel. This helps when going for undercut looks like the slick back or a quiff.

  1. Show Your Barber: Bring a picture of Beckham rocking the style (trust me, it’ll help). Request scissors instead of clippers on the sides to maintain that soft look, even if your barber grumbles about it!

  2. Blow-Dry for Shape: Once you have the cut, blow dry your hair thoroughly while using your hands to push it back. This gives you volume and control over the shape.

  3. Choose the Right Product: Use a low-shine or matte wax or gel. Work it through with your hands for a natural, piecey finish that isn’t too stiff or shiny.
