How to Deal with the “Nothing to Wear” Dilemma

We've all been there - standing in front of a closet full of clothes, yet somehow feeling like there's absolutely nothing to wear. And yes, it’s not just women who face this frustration. Men, especially those who care about their appearance, hit that wall from time to time too. But don't worry, there are ways to work around it.

Here are some personal suggestions to help you out when you’re stuck in an outfit rut. I’ve based these tips on items that most of us already have in our wardrobes, so hopefully, they inspire you to get through those “what the heck do I wear?” days.

Got a Cardigan?

On those not-too-cold, not-too-hot days, a cardigan can be a game changer. If you haven’t embraced the power of this classic piece, trust me, it’s one of the most versatile layers you can own. Whether you’re throwing it over a T-shirt or pairing it with a shirt, a cardigan instantly elevates your look without much effort.

If you’re going for something casual, a round-neck or V-neck T-shirt pairs nicely with a cardigan. When you want to dress things up a little more, put on a button-up shirt underneath. The cardigan is way more comfortable and less restrictive than a pullover sweater, and it still keeps you warm when needed. You can either button it up or leave it open like I do to give off a laid-back, jacket-like vibe.

Plain Black or Dark Indigo Jeans/Chinos

Let’s start with the bottom half. A solid pair of black or dark indigo jeans or chinos should be a staple in your wardrobe. Pair them with lace-up boots, Chelsea boots, or even some clean sneakers for a casual yet put-together look.

Once your bottom half is sorted, choosing a top gets easier. You can layer anything from a T-shirt to a sweater or shirt, and top it all off with a bomber jacket, denim jacket, or a rugged leather jacket for that perfect casual combo.

Blazer and Jeans Combo

If you want to step it up a notch, grab a well-fitting blazer - nothing too fancy, just a simple two-button style in navy, grey, or beige. Now, pair it with a trusty pair of dark jeans, preferably slim-fit and possibly with some light distressing.

For the shirt, a white T-shirt or button-up works perfectly. Just leave the top two buttons undone to keep things casual but still polished.

The All-Black Look

Ah, the classic all-black outfit. It’s sleek, simple, and always stylish. Plus, it works for almost any occasion. An all-black ensemble creates a clean, put-together appearance, but the key here is making sure everything fits just right - not too tight and definitely not too loose.

When pulling off this look, try playing with different shades of black and grey for a bit of contrast. Pair black jeans with a dark grey sweater, a light grey shirt underneath, and top it all off with a black leather jacket.

Finish the look with slightly polished black leather shoes, and you’ve got a winning combination that looks effortlessly cool.

Borrow from a Friend

Lastly, here’s a fun tip: swap clothes with a close friend. If you’ve got a buddy with a similar build and clothing size, why not agree to trade pieces from time to time? It’s a great way to mix up your wardrobe without spending a dime.
