If you’re into hair products, you’ve probably heard the name Blumaan popping up everywhere lately. Behind it is Joseph Andrews, the creator of the Blumaan YouTube channel, where he shares styling tips and techniques, often showcasing his own hair.
Blumaan jumped into the product game last year with a wax that’s been creating quite the buzz. There was a lot of anticipation leading up to its release, and after nine long months of waiting (yes, NINE), the product finally arrived. The big question: Does Blumaan live up to the hype?
Packaging Design: A Work in Progress
I'll be honest: Blumaan's packaging doesn’t really blow me away. The black and white color scheme with bold fonts feels safe and familiar, reminding me of By Vilain's early days (which has since undergone a design update, though I'm still not convinced it’s any better). The stickers on the lid, body, and bottom of the container tend to peel off with time, which is a bit disappointing for those who appreciate sleek, durable packaging.

However, since this is their first product, I’m willing to cut them some slack. Hopefully, future editions will be more refined. And kudos to the 91S Store for including a Vietnamese version of the instructions alongside the English ones.

In addition to the English user manual from Blumaan, 91S Store thoughtfully includes a Vietnamese version.
Wax Texture & Scent: A Smooth Operator
The Original by Blumaan wax comes in a solid white color, with a smooth, pliable texture that’s slightly sticky to the touch - think By Vilain Gold Digger, but a little less tacky. It melts easily between the palms and has a mild mint scent, which disappears quickly. For me, that’s a win since I’m not a fan of overpowering fragrances in hair products.

The wax’s ability to melt and rinse out easily makes it one of the cleaner products I’ve used. After styling, my hands washed off effortlessly, and my hair didn’t feel as weighed down as it does with waxes that contain more beeswax, like Hanz de Fuko Claymation.
Styling: Versatile Yet Powerful
I’m the kind of person who changes up my look on a whim. One day I’m sporting a classic pompadour, the next I’m going for a messy, tousled style. This flexibility allowed me to really test how Blumaan works in different hair types and lengths.
For my previous pompadour, I relied on Hanz de Fuko Claymation. But just before I chopped my hair off, I tried Blumaan in my longer hair. I used a small amount for pre-styling with a blow dryer, followed by another layer to finish the look. The result? Decent volume - about 80% of what I get with Claymation - but with a slightly tacky texture when running my fingers through it. The hold was solid, but not perfect; after wearing a helmet for about 20 minutes, the shape faded just a little, though it held up decently until the end of the day.

Blumaan truly shines when used on short, thick, and slightly coarse hair like mine. In the photo, I simply applied the product evenly to my hair without any elaborate styling, and the result was impressive.
Now that my hair is short (about 3-4 cm), Blumaan is pretty much a game-changer. No pre-styling required. I just blow-dry my hair, apply the product to both palms, and work it through my hair. Despite the initial stickiness, it absorbs quickly, and styling becomes a breeze. I sweep my bangs to the right and tousle the rest for a natural, textured look.

The texture is very soft and light.
Blumaan creates beautiful texture in short hair. The strands remain soft and defined, and the matte finish makes it look like I’m not even using a product. The hold is strong enough for my hair to stay in place all day, and even after wearing a helmet, it only takes a quick rework to get my hair back into shape.

The hair texture is styled very naturally. After applying the wax for about 10 minutes, the hair dries, and it feels like you haven’t used any styling product at all.

Blumaan has proven itself to be an excellent product for my current short, tousled style. It’s a solid 4.5/5 in my book, with room for improvement as my hair grows out. For now, though, it’s the perfect fit.
