Ever wondered why hairstyles with closely cropped sides and back are so popular? Here’s why: they bring together that romantic, voluminous length with the sharpness of short hair - a balance that hits the sweet spot for guys’ style. These contrasting elements blend effortlessly, making sure the look never gets stale.
Hairstyles never sit still; they shift with trends and seasons. The Side Swept style is a perfect example of an undercut variation that’s set to be huge this fall. As the weather cools, guys are ready to let their hair grow a bit for a fresh, longer look.

The Side Swept is like the best of both worlds between a side-part and a quiff, giving you a stylish yet easygoing vibe with a touch of sophistication and edge. The fringe is swept diagonally to one side, usually with the help of a comb, rather than being lifted straight up as in a classic undercut.

What makes this style pop is the defined parting line. You have options here: go for a “disconnected” look with a sharp line that your barber creates with clippers, setting a clear break between the sides and top. Or, try a “blended” approach, where the hair on the sides isn’t cut too short and smoothly transitions into the top for a softer, natural look. If you decide to keep the sides longer, just comb them back for an effortlessly sleek finish.

The standout feature of the Side Swept is its voluminous fringe, so proper blow-drying is key. When blow-drying, guide the hair in the direction of the sweep with your hand. Adding some Sea Salt Spray before blow-drying will make styling that fringe even easier.
Once styled, the goal is a fringe with a natural-looking volume that sweeps diagonally, tracing along the hairline.

Since the Side Swept needs a soft, natural look with a solid hold, here are a few waxes that work wonders: Hanz de Fuko Claymation (a personal favorite), By Vilain Silver Fox, and American Crew Fiber.
For a slightly undone look, Hanz de Fuko Claymation’s matte finish is ideal. But if you’re after a touch of shine, there’s nothing stopping you from experimenting with a bit more gloss.
