Side Swept: The Must-Have Hairstyle for Men This Fall

If you’ve been noticing the rise of hairstyles with tightly cropped sides and a longer top, there’s a good reason for their popularity. They deliver the ideal mix of sleek, masculine edges with that slightly romantic, flowing length up top. This combination is exactly what makes these styles so timeless and appealing for men.

Hairstyles evolve, constantly adapting to trends and personal preferences. The side swept is a standout variation of the undercut that’s poised to dominate as the cooler months set in. As fall rolls around, a lot of guys are ready to grow their hair out a bit, and this style offers the perfect fresh look.

The side swept is a blend of a traditional side-part and a quiff, offering a look that’s stylish without trying too hard. It balances elegance with a bit of ruggedness. The bangs are brushed to one side, creating a diagonal sweep instead of the straight-back approach of more typical undercuts.

One of the defining features of the side-part is the prominent line that separates the hair. You can opt for a sharp, disconnected line - where your barber will use clippers to give a bold contrast - or go for a softer, blended look. For the blended version, the sides are left a bit longer and gradually merge with the top for a more natural flow. If you choose the longer side approach, be sure to comb them back when styling to keep it clean.

The focal point of the side swept is the volume at the front. To nail this, make sure you blow-dry your hair thoroughly before styling. While drying, use your hands to guide the hair in the direction of the bangs. A Sea Salt Spray before blow-drying will help add texture and make styling easier. The goal is to achieve naturally voluminous bangs that fall diagonally and frame the face.

Since the side swept is all about a soft yet structured look, I recommend using wax products like Hanz de Fuko Claymation (my go-to), By Vilain Silver Fox, or American Crew Fiber. In my opinion, Hanz de Fuko Claymation works perfectly with this style, especially if you want a matte finish. But if you prefer a little more shine, feel free to experiment with other products.
